Sacha Gibbs-McPhee is a professional clarinettist and multi-instrumental music teacher, recently returned to Brisbane. Sacha learned piano from his mother from an early age, and picked up the clarinet in the third grade, inspiring in him a passion for the study of music which has not abated since.
Sacha began his tertiary studies at the University of Queensland, where he learned from the clarinettists of the Queensland Symphony, the first professional orchestra he would perform with. In 2016 he graduated after winning the school’s top prize for wind performance.
After graduation, Sacha was accepted into the Master’s program of the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied under the clarinettists of the London Symphony and Philharmonia Orchestras, and performed with the London Sinfonietta, ARC Ensemble, and Bloomsbury Opera. Sacha also performed as principal clarinet with the Royal Academy Symphony Orchestra and Opera, in performances conducted by Semyon Bychkov, Pascal Rophé, Gareth Hancock, and the late Oliver Knussen.
