Braxton Neate – Violoncello

I am totally committed to facilitating excellence, artistry and a life long love of music in young cellists.

Braxton Neate is a cellist, director and teacher. Braxton is Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Ensemble Fabrique, one of Brisbane’s leading new music ensembles and is a member of the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra. Braxton completed his studies at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University where he studied under Mei-Lee Stocker.

Braxton is an extremely dedicated and passionate teacher, totally committed to facilitating excellence, artistry and a life long love of music in young cellists. He currently maintains a busy private studio, teaches at a number of independent schools around Brisbane, is a registered teacher (trainee) with the Suzuki Talent Education Association of Australia, is a state committee member of the Australian Strings Association and regularly gives group/orchestral tuition and workshops throughout Queensland.

Laura Thomson – Violin & Viola

My style of teaching is fun, mentally stimulating and thoroughly enjoyable for all ages and levels.

Laura is a talented and experienced performer, having collaborated with many prominent Australian and New Zealand musicians. Her training was undertaken at the Queensland Conservatorium with Michele Walsh, with a further two years study at the Australian National Academy of Music with John Harding and Wilma Smith. Laura has also undertaken study in London and in Europe. Laura has worked extensively as an orchestral violinist with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Melbourne Opera Orchestra and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

As a teacher, Laura has over ten years experience and has passed on the joys of music-making to her students during this time. Some of her former students have gone on to become professional musicians themselves. Combined with a passion to pass on excellent technical skills from her own studies, Laura finds teaching not only rewarding but an integral part of helping to develop a vital cultural community into the future.

Xana Chambers – Guitar and Bass

As a private guitar and bass teacher, Xana knows how to craft her lessons to suit the unique needs and interests of each of her students. For the past four years, Xana has taught beginner and intermediate guitar and bass guitar to adults and children at two reputable music schools. She is a friendly and patient guitar teacher and is committed to helping her students gain full enjoyment out of the instrument.

In addition to teaching guitar and bass, Xana has worked extensively as a singer songwriter (e.g., Triple J, SBS) and a composer and sound designer. Her performance highlights include supports for Kate Miller Heidke, Canadian songstress Ember Swift and a collaboration with Robert Davidson of Topology.

As a composer and sound designer, Xana”s work has appeared in theatre productions at The Red Stitch Actors Theatre (VIC), the Melbourne and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals and the Polish Cultural Institute in New York. Xana is currently undertaking her Masters degree in Music and Sound at QUT.

Sarah Gall – Piano and Piano Accordion

“One of the joys of playing the piano is chasing sounds – sounds that are sublime, that take you somewhere else.”

Sarah Gall has been teaching piano for over twelve years, sharing the art of playing this beautiful instrument with students ranging in age from preschoolers to adults. With a solid grounding in both classical piano pedagogy and the contemporary music industry, Sarah combines solid training and ability with years of experience touring, recording and performing with a wide variety of artists.

Sarah’s teaching begins with building an appreciation of sound worlds, and then laying a solid technical/physical foundation to allow these imagined sound-worlds to come into being at the keyboard. Through this process, solid musicianship is developed. Sarah’s conceptual focus is on theory that supports creative music-making, as well as exposure to a broad range of teaching, classical and popular repertoire.

Sarah’s background as a pianist has included classical study with Lynne Jordan and Dr Diane Selmon. She has also had a successful academic career, undertaking research, teaching and course convenorship with Griffith University and RMIT and on a range of independent academic projects. Sarah loves the piano and loves to perform, bringing this passion into her teaching work.

Tashka Urban – Piano & Voice

“I am a creative enthusiast who lives and breathes music.”

A creative enthusiast who lives and breathes music., Tashka is a strong advocate for youth through community workshops and her private teaching endeavours of 11 years.

In the past five of these years Tashka developed her own music career-path curriculum, with the most successful of these streams guiding young artists (aged 12-16) through writing/recording their own CDs, receiving radio play, engaging in live performance and cross-art collaboration with theatre productions.

Tashka’s lessons are packed with musical games with a focus on teaching for individual needs rather than a set model for all. A strong base in Classical Music (10 years of study and AMEB examinations), a passion for jamming (ranging through many styles) and an unending thirst for composition (three short filmscores completed already for 2011) makes for a well-rounded music platter.

Although still new to Brisbane, she has fallen in love with its community and lush green landscapes and looks forward to calling it her musical home.
